I disagree with Dylan's take with regards to Berube having no comment on racism directed at Kadri. The people committing hateful comments to the internet are not going to be halting their horrible behaviour if Berube says anything. The people hurt by it aren't going to feel better if he says anything. The kids playing somewhere who've encountered this type of racism aren't looking up to Berube. This idea that if asked about a moral issue, a public figure must take a position and not only take a position, but take the precisely correct position is like demanding an attestation to their moral character. From his point of view, it could be insulting to demand an answer. Forcing people like Berube to talk about something that only has one just and moral answer is not helpful to the harmed and is hollow media pageantry that he should not be required to participate in.
The racism is disgusting, but Berube has every right to abstain from the conversation if he wishes.
