'We need a cleansing of hockey'
After three hours of grilling from Canadian parliamentarians, the president and CEO of Hockey Canada did little to change their minds that a complete overhaul is needed
It. Is. Over. Or at least it should be. It should be over for everyone who is in a senior position with Hockey Canada. It should be over for everyone who makes up its board of directors. And it should be over for everyone who is on the board of the Hockey Canada Foundation.
Because nothing short of a complete overhaul is going to going to change the culture of hockey in Canada and restore Canadians’ trust and faith in the organization that governs minor hockey in this country. As current Hockey Canada president and CEO Scott Smith sat through three hours of parliamentarians telling him he is not fit for his job, he remained steadfast in his belief that he is the one to lead the charge for change, to make Hockey Canada what it should be. He said he has the drive, the experience and the confidence of those in the organization. And he has also been humbled.
