Saros playing his way back into the Vezina race
The Nashville Predators don't give their goalies much room for error, but luckily they have a guy in Saros who has been immune to the dips in production we've seen from other goalies in the NHL
If you’re looking for evidence as to how fickle and volatile goaltending is in the NHL these days, all you have to do is peruse the list of the nine goalies who received Vezina Trophy votes in 2021-22: Igor Shesterkin, Jacob Markstrom, Juuse Saros, Frederik Andersen, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Ilya Sorokin, Thatcher Demko, Ville Husso and Tristan Jarry.
It’s not as though teams are just guessing with their goaltending these days, but it’s becoming more and more difficult to rely on one stopper to produce consistent results from year to year. It’s been that way for a while. With that in mind, you’d have to think the Nashville Predators feel really lucky they have a guy in Saros they know they can depend upon from one season to the next. Prior to that, they had Pekka Rinne and that was pretty good, too.
