By banning the colour of tape a player can use, even in practices, the league has once again proven that it is utterly incapable of staying out of its own way
Thanks for sharing this Ken. While I am happy to see your return to this space, I was sorry to see the topic even needed to be addressed. I hope to see more of your work soon.
The vast majority of people are sick of 'Pride' being forced into every arena. Thank God they didn't wear 'Pride' jerseys. This is a free country, have sex with who you like, dress how you like, congregate with who you like but shut up and get on with your lives. Stop screeching about 'inclusivity, feeling safe, feeling accepted'. These people are by in large quietly tolerated as our most people. Stop making us pretend they are magnificently special, they aren't. How about a night dedicated to working class fans with 5 kids who can't afford tickets or overpriced tv packages? There won't be one - why? Because this is America we shut up, get on with life and are quietly tolerated.
Race and sexual preference are genetic. They aren't choices.
If a person chooses to have five kids, well, that's a choice.
I'm sorry you don't share the same open-mindedness. By referring to people as "quietly tolerated", you're implying the exact point here, people who don't embrace diversity. The fact you feel that "feeling safe" is an issue, probably says a lot. I don't expect you to actually care, as you're pretty obviously comfortable with your current privilege, but consider a walk in the shoes of someone who doesn't "feel safe" just being who they are. Gays and other minorities are still assaulted and battered for literally just being gay or minorities. I don't think I've read about anyone being beaten to death for being "working class with 5 kids."
Are you aware of the amount of dishonesty contained in this narrative? The comment I posted was whether or not individual sexuality was in need of further public spotlight. You immediately co-opt race to ensure your ideological framing is sufficiently emotionally charged and then proceed. You then dishonestly postulate that people found within the LGBQT community are subjected to physical or verbal attack at NHL Games or to outright refusal of entry. False Again. Next I said that as a community 'Everyone' is quietly tolerated (seldom celebrated), you dishonestly twist this statement as a slight against people of minority communities. Next, you assume I personally do not accept minorities, false again. Last, you assume to know everything about me and my 'Privilege'. I don't fault you for being an open liar, you are simply a lazy reader, a limited thinker and obviously someone who mistakes melodrama for empirical facts. I wish better for you but either way I wish you the best.
It shouldn't even have to be addressed. A black puck on a hockey stick blade that has multi rainbow colors would not be considered a smart situation. It would help defenders and goaltenders see the puck more clearly. Why create needless media drama and meanwhile, neglect common sense??
You hit the nail on the head, Ken. This is stupid decision by a sport that regrettably seems to make an absurd number of stupid decisions.
Expansion to Atlanta again, anyone?

Good luck with your life.

Frankly, Mr. Walsh should probably simply plagiarize most of this blog post. Spot on, sir.
