The most difficult thing about watching the 2023 World Junior Championship – at least for Canadian hockey fans – will be separating the team playing for the gold medal with the organization it represents.
Over the past year, Hockey Canada has generally proven to be a loathsome sporting association, one that proved to be arrogant and self-absorbed and consumed with its own hubris even before the revelations of gang rapes and cover-ups and secret funds came to light. And those who would be inclined to punish Hockey Canada by tuning out its premier event, the way its previous sponsors have, would have a pretty strong case for doing so.
