If Miller had been a law abiding citizen who hadn't assaulted a developmentally disabled classmate six years ago, he'd likely be a sophomore in college. Now he's on the cusp of playing in the NHL
Whether or not you believe Mitchell Miller adequately paid his debt to society for bullying, assaulting and racially abusing a Black, developmentally disabled classmate six years ago, there is one indisputable fact that needs to be brought to the light.
And that is if Miller, who signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins Friday, had been a law-abiding citizen with a clean record, he’d almost certainly be a sophomore defenceman at the University of North Dakota right now, one of hundreds of young and talented players chasing their dreams of playing pro hockey.
Instead, Mitch Miller is now one step away from playing in the best league in the world. He’s guaranteed to make a minimum of $177,500 (U.S) each of the next three seasons even if he never plays a shift in the NHL. At 20 years old, Miller has been fast-tracked into professional hockey with the blessing of the Bruins and the league, that would have had to approve his contract.
