Miller debacle an embarrassment for Bruins, NHL
Both parties deserve equal amounts of ignominy for how they handled this situation. In fact, they put on a master class in how to take a terrible situation and make it even worse
Once again, the hockey world has been unable to stay out of its own way. So instead of celebrating the wonderful life and career of Peter McNab or talking about Erik Karlsson’s renaissance or marveling in how the Vegas Golden Knights have won seven games in a row anchored by a goalie who was playing Canadian university hockey four years ago, we’re kicking off the fourth week of the season discussing a debacle so stunning and egregious in its tone deafness and incompetence that it has pushed everything good to the periphery.
Over the past couple of days, there have been a good number of people who have conducted a master class on taking a terrible situation and doing everything possible to make it worse. And, as usual, it revolves around hockey people making the decision that having the opportunity to get someone to run your power play supersedes optics, decency and the notion of doing the right thing. And only when the public outcry became so loud and intolerable were those people shamed into changing course.
