Former Canuck staffer alleges discrimination, singles out assistant GM Castonguay
If the allegations in Rachel Doerrie's complaint to the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal are accurate, it's clear the NHL has a long way to go when it comes to inclusivity
Rachel Doerrie recently said on a podcast that she never, ever wants to work in hockey again. And if what she alleges in a complaint to the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal is accurate, it’s easy to see why she’d never again want to be part of an NHL hockey operations department.
You may remember Doerrie, a 25-year-old hockey analytics star, was hired as an analytics analyst by the Vancouver Canucks in January, then received a promotion to assistant to the video coach in May, only to be abruptly dismissed by the organization two months ago. The story behind the dismissal had been a mystery until Sunday night, when Doerrie, saying, “I am broken. I’m done hiding,” posted the details of the complaint to the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal on Twitter.
