It’s expected David Branch will be among those subpoenaed by the Canadian Heritage standing committee.

It certainly looks as though the Canadian Heritage standing committee is going to try to get what Hockey Canada and its high-priced boutique lawyers have said they’ve been unable to attain for four years now. And that would be answers as to what exactly happened and who was involved in an alleged gang rape involving members of the 2018 Canadian World Junior team.

According to the minutes of a Canadian Heritage meeting Wednesday, that followed up Monday’s testimony from officials at Hockey Canada, these people have clearly had enough of the stonewalling surrounding this issue. They want documents and clear responses from a number of the principals involved, and it appears they are not going to stop until they get them.

Whether that ever leads to us learning the identities of the eight John Does who were named in the statement of claim from a woman who claims she was gang raped in a London, Ont., hotel room by young hockey players after a Hockey Canada Foundation Gala remains to be seen. But unlike Hockey Canada and Henein Hutchison, the boutique law firm Hockey Canada contracted to do a third-party investigation that wasn’t even completed and revealed a lot of nothing, Canadian Heritage is at least trying to get to the bottom of what happened.

The panel will meet again on July 26 and 27 and it has issued subpoenas to a number of people who might have those answers. Among those who will be subpoenaed for the hearings:
